Some Folks Call It A Sling Blade

Good Afternoon Ladies & Gentlemen,

Good times. Yesterday was a lazy lazy day. I basically watched movies...and thought about the future a bit. Lame, I know...but bear with me for a moment. As you know, my job is okay. It has great benefits, great people that I work with, and they allow me to carry a gun (until they find out). However, I was also kind of forced to start at the bottom of the totem pole again...and though I'm a sturdy hunk of man for a foundation, I'd kinda like the last 9+ years of my career to not go to waste, so I've been looking for other jobs...and this has been documented. Well, one of the places that I've been really looking into...is also a place that I have never been....and that place...is Lake Tahoe. Why Tahoe? Well, not just because there's a HOE in the name and that strikes me as funny...like Lake Titicaca (tehehehehehe). Actually, my company is opening a new branch out there around the end of the year (which oddly is when my lease runs out) and it'd be a great opportunity to help open a branch...and with my experience, it seems like a great opportunity (though going up against the unemployment of Cali and anybody else looking for a job). The thing is...I've never been there...but I hear its a lot like Park City, here in Utah...and it's just a daytrip away from places like San Francisco, Half Moon Bay, Napa Valley, etc. I've got a few months to think about it...but I've already put in a few steps towards getting my foot in the door...so I'll keep you posted. I'll also keep you posted on when I make a road trip out there to see if I could stand living there. I'm sure it'll be nice though. My dad & stepmom go there annually (to see the grandkids that live there) and they have nothing but great things to say about it. So yeah, I don't know...maybe Cali could be ready for Dr Love...just not Hollywood. Stay tuned...

Vegas Update - A Las Vegas man won a courtroom battle Wednesday with the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles over his "HOE" license plate, which the agency tried to cancel on grounds that he was using a slang reference to prostitutes. The high court said the DMV based its opposition to William Junge's plate on definitions found in the Web-based Urban Dictionary, which includes user contributions. Justices ruled that the contributed definitions "do not always reflect generally accepted definitions for words." Junge, whose case was pursued by the American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada, said he got the "HOE" plate in 1999 for his Chevy Tahoe, after being told "TAHOE" wasn't available. "It's nonsense," Junge said of the state agency's efforts to pull his plates. The 62-year-old said he was referring to his vehicle's model and not to prostitutes with his plates, adding: "That was their interpretation. Shame on them." The high court said Urban Dictionary "allows, if not encourages, users to invent new words or attribute new, not generally accepted meanings to existing words." But "a reasonable mind would not accept the Urban Dictionary entries alone as adequate to support a conclusion that the word 'HOE' is offensive or inappropriate," the justices wrote. Rebecca Gasca (not a hoe) of the ACLU of Nevada said the attempt by a DMV supervisor to cancel Junge's license plate violated constitutional First Amendment protections. Junge dropped out of the litigation after the DMV appealed to the Supreme Court, but the ACLU continued the fight. "While the Urban Dictionary might be an entertaining Web site about the English language, the court acknowledged it's not a reliable source for DMV decision-making about whether a license plate is vulgar," Gasca said. In written briefs submitted to the state Supreme Court, an attorney for the DMV argued there was no First Amendment violation and the state has a reasonable basis for regulating vanity plates on vehicles. It also said the term "hoe" was derogatory toward women. So there you go. My first amendment rights would be upheld...because the government uses the Urban Dictionary to base their decisions. So I can finally get that "SKEE SKEE" license plate that I've so desperately wanted. Oh...and as my defense I'm sure I can come up with some BS about it being a tribute to my fallen brethren in wars across the seas...and bring about a tear or two in the courtroom...and walk away the proud owner of the plates that'll always get a laugh and/or nod of respect from the G's in my new 'Hoe Hood.

That'll Teach 'Em - A suburban Philadelphia man has agreed to take anger management classes for blaring a pornographic soundtrack to chase away kids playing outside his home. Michael Buck was arrested May 31 at his upscale Phoenixville cul-de-sac after irate neighbors told police they could hear the sexually explicit audio a block-and-a-half away...and were angry with it for some reason. The 27-year-old man will also perform 20 hours of community service under terms of a 90-day agreement reached in court Thursday. If Buck complies with the terms, he'll return to court in October and plead guilty to a noise violation charge. He had faced more serious charges of corruption of minors and disorderly conduct. Neighbors at the hearing said they're satisfied with the agreement...but wanted to confiscate the videos for evidence...and that request was denied. Nice try though. This man is well on his way to being the grouchy old guy on the porch...of which I plan to be one day. "You damn kids get off my lawn!!!" "What're you gonna do, old man?" "I'm gonna...go watch some movies." Then he just casually strolls into his house...and blares the pornographic material...and that's only because his hearing is lacking in his old age...or at least that's what he tells the cops. That'd be my story.

Anyway, that'll do it for today. Gotta look into this Tahoe thing a little more and get me some contacts down there. Wish me luck, eh? Tomorrow I'll fill you in on the movies I've seen the past few days...and whatever else tickles my fancy. Have a great day everybody!!!
