Oaktoberfest & APE!!!

Good Afternoon Ladies & Gentlemen,

Softball was cancelled on Tuesday, but that basically just meant that Izzy & I lazed about and had some homebrew… I also made her some red pepper raviolis with chicken, pesto & feta… and we made some awesome brownies… but mostly lazed about and I watched “Parks & Recreation” while she did homework. Sometimes you just have to take time to relax…

Thursday night, I met up with Bubbles to help her pick out a laptop… and more importantly, check out the SOMA Streatfood Park located across the street from Best Buy, where every single day, food trucks drive up, set up shop around a common area with a covered gazebo with televisions & seats, and you basically have a nice little piazza with food choices at your disposal… and maybe watch a sport… chat with buddies… enjoy Bacon Bacon or one of the other amazing food trucks in the area… and just have a good time. I enjoyed Bacon Bacon (of course) and Bubbles had some black bean burger from Flippin’ Good, which wasn’t too bad either (I had to help her finish) and we washed it down with a pitcher of Sudwerk’s Fest Lager. Good times! Here are some pictures…

Saturday was Oaktoberfest, which is an annual celebration of all things involving German Beer & Culture… and the great city of Oakland. Located in the Dimond District (not Diamond), they had live entertainment, over twenty local breweries involved, a biergarden, crafts for the kids, an eco fair, and of course… Homebrewer’s Alley, where the SF Homebrewers Guild was set up (among about a dozen other groups) to dispense their delicious goodness & celebrate craft beer! The weather was a little on the warm & sunny side… but thankfully there was plenty of cold beverages to help everybody maintain… and plenty of great German food to make you feel like you were at a festival in Munich (on its way to the sun perhaps). Here are some pictures… and I highly recommend it for next year…

Afterwards, Izzy & I went to have dinner with her aunts Nan & Sue and some of their friends… and we just had a good time eating pizza & watching the SF Giants game that went up to 18 innings (we only watched from 8th to 16th during our few hours there). Good times with good peeps!

Sunday, we went to the Festival Pavilion at Fort Mason to check out the APE - Alternative Press Expo, which is essentially a lesser known Comic Book Convention sponsored by Comic Con… but a nice mix of some lesser-known artists and titles… and others who are trying to really make a name for themselves in the community. Izzy tells me that artist know who these people are… and I recognized a few names, but it’s not like there are signing tables for Stan Lee or Lou Ferrigno or anything like that… it’s more a collection of great artists at a fantastic swap meet or beautifully drawn comics, posters, one-of-a-kind works, statuettes, and other art pieces. Because a lot of artists don’t like their stuff to be photographed (and I apparently respect that), here are a few pictures… but yeah, I’ll admit that they don’t really do a good job of selling it. For $10 each though if you plan more than 15 minutes ahead, it’s definitely worth checking out next year. Anyway, here are the pictures…

That’ll about do it for this week… coming up is softball, more beer related activities, and more… have a great day everybody!!!
