NO MORE JELLO FOR ME, MOM!!!

Good Afternoon Ladies & Gentlemen,

Last night, JL Clyde & I watched some movies again...and the first was "Poltergeist II" with Craig T. Nelson & Jobeth Williams. Okay, so we watched the first one a month or so ago...and the second one picks up a few weeks later. After their house was sucked up into an alternate dimension or something (sorry, spoiler for the first), the insurance company is giving them flack...because techinically their house is just missing...and they don't have alternate dimension insurance (talk to your local agent immediately). So they're living at grandma's house...but there's a family secret. While trying to get their lives back together, they have a visitor. Quite possibly the creepiest old man you've ever seen...and the ghosts come back after their little girl Carolanne (the girl sucked into the TV in the first one). Now, with the help of a "magical midget" and a Medicine Man (I smell a spin-off), Coach must save his family from an evil demon. It's a pretty good horror flick without all the gore. I mean, the creepy old man (Julian Beck) really is just about the creepiest thing that you can imagine. I also watched the E! True Hollywood Story about the "Poltergeist Curse" a few years back...and if you know that backstory, it can be a little creepy too. Here are some of the things that happened...

Four main actors died between the release of the first movie and the release of the third (about six years time):

  • Dominique Dunne, 22-year-old actress who played the oldest sibling Dana in the first movie, died after being choked by a jealous boyfriend in 1982. The boyfriend John Thomas Sweeney was later convicted and sentenced to six years in prison, though initially he only served two and a half years.

  • Julian Beck, 60-year-old actor who played Kane (creepy old guy) in Poltergeist II: The Other Side, died in 1985 of stomach cancer, with which he was diagnosed before he had accepted the role.

  • Will Sampson, 53 years old, who played Taylor the Medicine Man in Poltergeist II, died of post-operative kidney failure and pre-operative malnutrition problems in 1987.

  • Heather O'Rourke, actress who played Carol Anne in all three Poltergeist movies, died in 1988 at the age of 12 after what doctors initially described as an acute form of influenza but later changed to septic shock after bacterial toxins invaded her bloodstream. At the time, she had suffered acute bowel obstruction, initially diagnosed as Crohn's disease, which may have been the cause of death.

Here are a few other rumors/coincidences that were mentioned during the show:

  • Actor Will Sampson, a Creek Indian and shaman, performed an exorcism on the set of Poltergeist II to rid it of "alien spirits". Why?

  • The "prop" skeletons emerging from the muddy swimming pool towards the end of the first movie were in fact real corpses - the cast and crew found this out later

  • During a scene when Robbie Freeling (Oliver Robins) was choked by a toy clown in his room, the mechanical prop malfunctioned and Robins was actually choked.

  • During a photography session for Poltergeist III, it was discovered that one shot of co-star Zelda Rubenstein had shining light obstructing the view of her face. Rubenstein claims the photo was taken at the moment the actress's mother died.

  • During the making of Poltergeist III, a movie set of a parking garage was destroyed by fire during shooting of a fire scene, injuring all but one of the crew.

  • Heather O'Rourke once starred in a Rainbow Brite commercial with Judith Barsi. Judith died at age 10, five months and 24 days after Heather died. She was murdered along with her mother by her father.

Anyway, just a little extra controversy to throw in there. Even if you didn't know all of that stuff...it's a creepy PG movie. I liked it...though at times you'll catch yourself even laughing a bit. I'm sure it was intentional. After that, we decided to watch a movie that I can't believe I had never seen before. It's a movie about time travel, going from the 80's to the 60's, so the music is awesome, and starring the dynamic trio of Nicolas Cage, Kathleen Turner AND Jim Carrey. That movie is "Peggy Sue Got Married" which was directed by Francis Ford Coppola...so little Sofia starred in it too as Peggy Sue's little sister...and Helen Hunt as Peggy Sue's daughter which was a pleasant surprise. Anyway, it's about a woman (Turner) on the verge of divorce from her husband of 25 years (Cage) who, while at her 25th high school reunion, passes out...and wakes up in 1960, back in high school donating blood. After a few minutes of trying to convince herself that she's not crazy, she decides to use the opportunity to see what might have been if she had made different decisions...like going out with the mysterious poet badboy (Kevin O'Connor) instead of her high school sweetheart/future husband. It's actually a pretty good flick with lots of comedy...and not just because Nic Cage uses quite possibly the worst weasely kind of voice ever (I'm sure purposely) throughout the movie...but then sings like a lark, all while donning a blonde pompadour. Plenty of fun and enteratining stuff in this one. I say check it out...and don't worry, though it seems like Sofia Coppola pops up entirely too much in a few early scenes, you don't have to see her the rest of the movie after that. Also, Peggy Sue mentions a few times through the movie that she has two kids Beth (Helen Hunt) and Scott (officially listed as Randy Bourne), you never get to see her son. Just thought that was a little weird. Here's some "news" from yesterday...

Clay Aiken's Secret - Singer Clay Aiken has told People Magazine and shocked all of his Claymates by admitting that he is gay. In other news, salt tastes salty. In the most unnewsworthy news report since "Keith Richards Admits Drug Use", the 29-year old will be on the cover of People's latest issue holding his infant son, Parker Foster Aiken, conceived by in-vitro fertilization with friend and producer Jaymes Foster. The headline: "Yes, I'm Gay." I hate to say it...but I agree with "American Idol" judge & producer Simon Cowell when he said (sarcastically of course): "Wow. That's a shock. It's like being told Santa Claus isn't real. Unbelievable."

Lindsay Update - In yet another gasper of a story, friend of the blog Lindsay Lohan has confirmed what the world has guessed: She's been dating Samantha Ronson "a very long time." The 22-year-old actress casually told the co-host of the syndicated radio program "Loveline" on Monday that she's been dating the 31-year-old DJ. The pair have appeared in public and been photographed together but have never publicly commented about the extent of their relationship. "You guys, you and Samantha, have been going out for how long now?" DJ Ted Stryker asked. "Like two years, one year, five months, two months?" "For a very long time," Lohan said after laughing. This isn't surprising...because over a year ago when Lindsay & I were talking to each other (before her first few stints in rehab) she would often mention her curiosity in the field of what she called "hot girly sex" and being a caring person, amateur psychologist, and generic pervert, I would ask her to describe these urges, thoughts, fantasies, and the like...but I'm happy for them. I hope that Sam helps her get her life back in order...because I hate to see friends go down a path of self-destruction. Again, not really news...but here you go...and the Easter Bunny doesn't make sense...and the sun rose yet again...and I just farted. Thus concludes today's news program.

Today's going to be more packing (though I still have heard nothing from Denver...or Vegas for the past few months for that matter) and then I pick up my new suits today. Perhaps I'll take some pictures to show you how nice they all are...but we'll see. That seems awfully ambitious of me right now. Here are a few things that I was via email that I thought was quite hilarious. The first is I'm sure that you have all seen before...but it's simply titled the BEST BEER COMMERCIAL EVER and I would have to agree...though I'm also a big fan of the "I Love You, Man!" commercials from my childhood...

Then there's this place in Chandler, Arizona called Heart Attack Grill which has these...simply amazingly indulgent hamburgers that I wouldn't even DARE to try to process in one sitting...but the staff seems very friendly...with a flare for the kinky, which I can always enjoy during a lengthy sitdown. Jewels, I may come to visit you yet. Enjoy the pictures...

Can't quite make out that menu...

Ah, much better!!!

This girl looks a lot like a girl I dated a few times...
except she was a vegetarian or vegan or something.
It wasn't meant to be.

Hmm, surprisingly cold near the grill I see...

The ingredients

That should do it for today. Have a great day everybody!!! Bubbles, I hope that you start feeling better so that you can have an awesome weekend.

Mmm Raccoon Meat

Good Morning Ladies & Gentlemen,

Just another day in Paradise. Still no word on Denver but the sky is blue and all the leaves are green. My heart's as full as a baked potato. I think I mean exactly what I say when I say that it's a schpedoinkal day. My family's doing a little better than this weekend. They're still going through the recovery process...and my sister-in-law isn't communicating much and when she does, it's not communicating effectively (no answers, showing up hours late, not really answering the question that's asked, blowing smoke, etc) so they're basically just doing whatever. Good times. Had a dream last night...but had basically forgotten it the instant I woke up. My apologies. Really hadn't had an original memorable one in a while, just the frustrating ones. It's shaping up to be an awesome weekend with my buddy's wedding coming up...and after today, I have a four-day weekend. YAY!!! Other than that, not much to blab about right now...so here's some news...

Sherlock Holmes Movie Update - The guy bangin' Madonna / director Guy Ritchie ("Snatch" & "Lock, Stock, & Two Smokin' Barrels") is heading up the next interpretation of the stories of detective "Sherlock Holmes" soon and he has announced his chief actors. For the role of the detective, the great American actor Robert Downey jr. For the role of his apparently very British pretty boy assistant Watson, because Hugh Grant has previous engagements, that part will be played by Jude Law. I'm sure that it's still going to be a great movie. I just like to give Jude Law a hard time. Somebody has to. Robert Downey though, that guy's awesome. He's on my A-list for actors…like the Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Gary Oldman level. Always been a big fan…even during the coke years. So yeah, keep an eye out for that movie.

This Week in BLING - Miners in the southern African kingdom of Lesotho have found one of the world's largest diamonds, a near-flawless white gem weighing nearly 500 carats. The diamond was discovered in the Letseng Mine on September 8, the company said in a statement (probably trying to be smuggled in some worker's anus). It has been analyzed by experts in Antwerp and found to weigh 478 carats (over three ounces) with very few inclusions and of outstanding color and clarity. "It has the potential to yield one of the largest flawless D color round polished diamonds in history," the company said. Letseng is one of the most productive mines in history -- four of the world's 20 largest rough diamonds have been found at the mine, including the three largest found this century. Before it is cut into gems it is hard to value the diamond, but a spokesman for Gem Diamonds said a similar weight stone with lesser-quality color and clarity had recently sold for $12 million. That's right, soak in the picture, ladies. Look at that glistening chunk of compressed carbon. Gentlemen, I'm going to let you in on a little secret that I might use later on in life when/if the time comes for an engagement in the search for Mrs. Doctor Love. Shortly before you plan to pop the question, watch the movie "Blood Diamond" with your lady. You may have to really play the Leonardo DiCaprio romance angle…but don't worry, Jennifer Connelly's in it too.

Anyway, watch the movie…and see a mild interpretation of what goes on in Mother Afrika for the sake of the diamond trade. You all know the horror stories so I'm not going to bore you with them…but it's really bad stuff. Then…a few days later, when you're on bended knee…and gazing into the already-tearing eyes of the most amazing woman you could ever hope to be with, recite that cheesy speech that you've been practicing since the first time you saw her about Love and beauty and truth and children and puppy dogs and all that other stuff, and then reach into your pocket…and as you ask her "Will you marry me?" you reveal a beautiful shiny purple plastic spider ring from the local Nickelcade. "What the f**k is that?" "You see sweetie (or other pet name), after watching that movie last week about the diamond trade…and seeing you tear up at points, I wanted this symbol of our Love to be more than just a sparkling piece of rock found and paid for with blood, sweat, tears, and misery. I wanted it to be about our Love…and all the good times that we've had together…playing games, making each other smile, expressing ourselves to one another our innermost desires & dreams, and I want that to continue. So in lieu of spending two months' salary, or whatever the standard is nowadays, on a flimsy piece of jewelry causing suffering to children half the world away…I've decided to spend a few tokens at a Skee Ball machine to get this…because I know that purple is your favorite color, it's pretty, it reminds me of our first date back at Dave & Buster's, you don't love me because I'm rich…but because I'm fun & kooky, I know you don't like spiders…but you won't have to worry because I'll always be there to protect you, and as for our hopes and dreams, I thought that the two month's salary that would otherwise go to this ring, we can put towards the down payment of our home…with a white picket fence…and your painting room (adjust to your lady's dreams) and start our family instead. So (insert name), will you marry my silly ass?" If she's not laughing & crying at this point, then I say abort…but chances are she'll be caught up in the moment too…and hopefully say yes. No need to thank me, just pay it forward.

This Can't Be Right!!! - Apparently, in Portland Oregon, construction workers called in complaints about a naked woman skater interfering with their work. The skater, Gennifer Moss a.k.a. Earth Friend Gen, asked organizers for permission this summer to skate naked in the city of Ashland's Fourth of July parade (mentioned here on my blog). She didn't get it. Police told her to tone it down after the construction workers complained. Moss donned a string bikini bottom for the nonce and skated on. Police say most callers are concerned about her safety. I'll bet. Imagine the kind of road rash she could get if she slipped…and it's always raining in Portland…much like it's always sunny in Philadelphia. Oh by the way, you can skate in the nude in Oregon. The occasional nude bike rides draw police only for crowd control...and shows featuring live sex acts are protected as free speech. Don't worry, I've already looked into the job market in that area. I'll keep you posted. Still, construction workers called and complained? Maybe I'm just stereotyping construction workers…but that just doesn't seem right. It was probably the foreman (foreperson, not sure what the PC term is) that called because of all the gawking. Those foremen can be real Gawk Blockers sometimes. Not sure what kind of children are raised in an environment like that where live sex acts are protected by the first amendment…but I'm sure they're great, well-rounded kids...and I have a feeling this picture came from one of them…

Have a great day everybody!!!

It's Not A Rape Van, It's A Spy Van

Good Afternoon Ladies & Gentlemen,

The title of today's entry comes from a wonderful little show that I've finally had the pleasure of checking out called "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" starring...well, I guess the only person anybody knows is Danny DeVito...but it's still pretty damn funny. I've only seen two episodes (thank you boring weekend at mom's) but in those two episodes there was manhunting, cannibalism, mild necrophilia, waterboarding, solutions to the gas crisis, Rambo, teamwork, sexual advances in a bank setting, and explosions. Apparently there are three seasons of this show already on DVD. Who knew? I may have to check the rest of them out. GO EAGLES!!!

Last night, I hung out with my dad for a few hours watching a match of the American football between the Jets of New York City (Jersey) and San Diego Superchargers. There were marvelous feats of athleticism, including a man named Philip (with one L) of the Riverfolk who was able to throw an oblong pigskin at times for than fifty meters in the general direction of another man in an odd arrangement of armour...and then the other man would keep this object from touching the ground...and continue to run. Most absurd...yet quite entertaining. Anyway, after that boring ass game where the announcers kept talking about Brett Favre's older than his coach and how he has more touchdowns in any situation than anybody ever, I went to hang out with JL Clyde, Filly, Filly's sister, and Filly's sister's girlfriend. We had cherry Coke and laughed a bunch and played Rock Band under the band name Cinnabong (which I think could be HUGE in airport terminals across the globe). Good times. Flowers Would Be A Surprise

Good Afternoon Ladies & Gentlemen,

Despite what you may have read yesterday, the weekend wasn't all bad. For example, I did get to have some good Chinese food at the Golden Phoenix with JL Clyde. Their sesame chicken, braised tofu (which I'm told is some type of bird), and wonton soup were pretty good. I didn't keep the Fortune Cookie of the Day…but it was something like "Flowers would be a great surprise for somebody tomorrow." Really? That would be something of a surprise…but since I just spent a few grand on suits for a job that I've heard basically nothing on for several weeks, I just sent some digital flowers with a sweet message. Hopefully that'll work in surprising some ladies out there.

At work, I got to hang with the Mad Scientist, Camb, and Mandy for a few moments, so that was cool too. I even got a call from Bubbles who really brightened my day by describing her new Halloween outfit - Li'l Red Riding Hood. Made me think a little bit about my Halloween outfit…and Filly has offered to make me one for the longest time…but I've simply had so much other crap on my mind, I really can't think of anything. We've thrown around ideas like Frank the Bunny (Donnie Darko), the Jolly Green Giant, Sexual Harassment Panda, Dramatic Stare Squirrel, even Li'l Red Riding Hood briefly (did it once in high school…and it wasn't pretty) but can't really think of one that'd work good…and I don't want to bother her with my indecision…so I'm basically just thinking as going as Chewbacca or a Horny Devil again because it's simple and I already have the costume. Heck, Dramatic Stare Squirrel would just require a little face paint with the Wookie suit. I don't know. What do you guys think? Any suggestions?

Ooh, I also finished "Choke" by Chuck Palahniuk…and as previously mentioned, I highly recommend it to anybody who likes to read books. There's definitely a different kind of logic behind the main character's thinking but there's a lot of odd ball happenings, character quirks, and mishaps along the way. I'd say check it out…or the movie comes out on Friday. Now for the news…

Nate Dogg Hospitalized - West Coast rapper Nate Dogg was hospitalized nearly two weeks ago after suffering a stroke, his second in less than a year. However, contrary to Internet news stories that offered an upbeat prognosis, a family member tells E! News that as of Wednesday the 39-year-old was on life support in a Los Angeles-area hospital with a feeding tube in his mouth. "He has suffered another stroke from his bad eating habits and unhealthy lifestyle. All we can do now is pray for him." says Donald Smith, Dogg's cousin and a fellow rapper who goes by the moniker Lil' Half Dead (Really?). Dogg has since been taken off life support but as of today still requires a feeding tube. The rapper, whose real name is Nathaniel Hale, was stricken on Sept. 5. Earlier this week, manager Rod McGrew told the hip-hop news site SOHH "the prognosis at this time is favorable. We're positive, prayerful, hopeful and patient." The rapper's condition will undoubtedly force a Compton judge to postpone a Sept. 24 hearing in which Dogg faces felony charges for threatening and stalking his estranged wife (as mentioned earlier on this blog). Our prayers go out to you and your family…and we hope that you recover fully.

Mission Failed - 25-year-old Richard Anthony Smith called 911 from his cell phone before dawn Wednesday saying he was trapped in an air conditioning duct leading from the Knoxville Museum of Art's roof. Police and firefighters reached the roof, found a rope and cable and followed them to a vent shaft. Peering inside, they spotted Smith about 45 feet down. Hoisted up and read his rights, Smith told police he was a "special agent from the United States Illuminati, badge number 0931" and had rappelled onto the museum from a helicopter, a police report said. He said he was following orders to "defuse and confiscate" a Soviet-made nuclear warhead, specifically a "MERV6SS-22AN" warhead. The bomb supposedly was hidden in a blue, plastic cow sculpture in the museum basement. However, Smith told officers his "agency" called while he was in air-vent limbo to say it made a mistake and the bomb might be in a Memphis museum instead. Police charged Smith with aggravated robbery. He was being held on $2,000 bond at the Knox County Jail. Authorities said he did not have a lawyer…but he's gonna need a good one. Police spokesman Darrell DeBusk said, "Fortunately he was able to reach his cell phone or he may not have been found for quite some time." I guess the mission was a failure…but what if he's telling the truth...and the people of Memphis should watch out for an active Soviet warhead? These may not be a the ramblings of a mad man…or the BS of a man stuck in an air conditioning duct trying to come up with something, anything to tell police when they come to rescue him. Here's the question, is there a blue cow sculpture in the basement? I always told my mom that's where blue cheese comes from…but she never believed me. One thing's for sure, as a fellow member of the Illuminati, he must now be executed for revealing our existence. Wait, does that mean that I must be eliminated now? Never mind, forget that I said anything.

Cloning: It Begins - The Australian government has issued its first license allowing scientists to create cloned human embryos to try and obtain embryonic stem cells. The in vitro-fertilization firm Sydney IVF was granted the license and reportedly has access to 7,200 human eggs for its research. If the firm is successful it would be a world first. Scientists in other countries have made stem cells they believe are similar to embryonic cells using a variety of techniques but none have been able to extract embryonic stem cells from cloned human embryos. An Australian ban on the research, known as therapeutic cloning or somatic cell nuclear transfer, was lifted in December 2006 after a rare conscience vote in the national parliament…but the use of excess IVF embryos and the creation and use of other embryos in research is restricted by law through national legislation. Human cloning for reproductive purposes is banned. More of the details are explained in the article if you're interested…but it should be an interesting development. I've mentioned my views of cloning before…but here they are again for new readers.

  • Cloning Humans - Were I a selfish person, I would say that we can clone various Victoria's Secret supermodels, actresses, and bring back Marilyn Monroe. However, the world is already extremely overpopulated for its resources. So for the safety of all, I suggest that we invest in pleasure-giving robots instead of having my own Norma Jean. I'll just have to find the living, breathing girl the old fashioned way...buy her from her father for a few head of cattle.

  • However, I do like the idea of cloning for organ transplants & diseases and what have you. Sure, it'll be one of those things were the advantage goes to those that can afford it...but all medicine is that way. That's why life expectancy differs from country to country & continent to continent.

  • Some may argue that growing a human being simply for a few organs is wrong. They may be right. However, is it any more wrong to grow sunflowers for a few seeds? Or soy for its beans? Or a walnut tree for its nuts? Wow, that last one did sound a little wrong.

  • Cloning Animals - In advance, I'm going to warn you that my views differ from that of PETA...because I love meat. All kind of meat. Meat that some wouldn't even consider meat. However, I do realize that there are more humane ways to produce meat over others. Some may ask "Why do some companies brutally slaughter instead of humanely recycle animals?" Well, leaving out the more delicate use of words, it's basically a financial influence. Killing humanely costs more money...and to stay competitive with foreign producers, prices need to be slashed (pardon the ironic use of words).

  • I like the idea of cloning animals for food & clothing and any other use of their bodies...except for one thing, it probably costs more than usual herding...which defeats the purpose to both producer & consumer, so it's only feasible financially as a last resort for world starvation...but may be sooner than we think.

  • There is one gripe that I have about animal protestors. They always defend the cute animals like dolphins, horses, & pandas...but where's the love for nature's less-attractive animals like turkeys or retarded animals like cows.

  • Cloning Plants - Nobody ever seems to have a problem with cloning or bioengineering plants. Do plants not react to their environment like an animal or human? Do they not feed, grow, reproduce, or are effected by disease like any other being? Yeah, I'm all for engineering super plants that bear tomatoes the size of Buick (for pizza sauce) and cashews that can be used as rocking furniture. Tell me that a nacho flavored banana doesn't sound delicious & nutritious.

Well, it's a rainy morning here in Utah...and who knows, maybe I'll hear something about this Denver job some time this week. I'm sure that it'll come at the most inconvenient possible time. Until next time, take care of yourself...and each other. Love out!!!

Why Do We Even Try?

Good Afternoon Ladies & Gentlemen,

Friday was a pretty good day. I woke up, blogged, did some running around, and then my mom showed up to go suit shopping...since with my new job (that I'm optimistic will be offered to me in the next few days) I'll be wearing a suit every day...and beating off the ladies with a stick (as dirty as that sounds, it's even dirtier). She, my stepdad, & I had lunch at Mimi's Cafe. Good food. Cute waitress. After that, my stepdad left...because apparently I was my mom's chauffeur back to her house (over an hour away) after we were done. Awesome. It's a good thing that I wanted to spend some time with her anyway. Our first stop was...honestly, I'm not sure of the official name...but it's a place a few blocks from my house and it's some kind of combination of "Big & Tall Men for Less Discounts For Women 14 Plus" or something like that. I kid you not. I'd say read the sign when you're in the neighborhood...but as the employees reminded us a few times, they were bought out by Casual Male XL and will be closing this store soon...so the already discount prices had an additional 25%-50% off. Nice. Our guide through this store was a man named Joe, who was probably in his late 40's, early 50's and a nice guy. He'd obviously been a salesman for a long time. We salesmen know our trade...and he did very well, especially for what's basically a discount store.

I'm going to admit, at first, I was REALLY regretting inviting my mother...because everything was "cute" and "an outfit" and I think she may be going colorblind. "Here try this brown suit on." "Mom, that's green." "No, this one." "You mean the one in your hands that you're offering to me." "Yeah." "Yeah, it's green." After a while though, I would just ignore her trying to convince me that a pink shirt would really bring out my eyes (not sure what that means exactly) and she offered to buy the clothes purchased at this store. Okay, I regretting it less now. I tried on a bunch of things and ended up getting a two suits (Barcelona green & navy blue pinstripe), cordoroy jacket, two shirts, three ties, some socks, and even got a few things like jeans...since it was a Big & Tall store. The only downside was the selection was slim of good stuff...because they're going out of business soon. It's also really hard when I look good in everything...especially a suit. Total Damage Here: About $400

The next stop was the Men's Wearhouse. By the way, did I mention that was wearing my Dee's Nuts T-shirt? Okay, well now you know. So we walked in...and we were greeted by a gentleman by the name of Charlie. Fifties, probably has grandkids, was a businessman, now a suit salesman that knows his stuff, and best friends with Randy from Earth, Wind, & Fire...so we got along really well. Fist bumps & off-color jokes were even involved. Like I said, he's a great salesman and established a rapport early. He even said things like "You know, you can say no if you don't like the suit. It won't hurt my feelings." "That's just it. I look good in everything. Damn my statuesque figure and chiseled good looks!" Basically, we were there for about two hours (I think) and we were pretty much the only people in the store, so everybody was walking up with other options to consider, offering water and all the usual stuff. Meanwhile, I tried on a bunch of stuff, checked myself out from all angles in those five-mirror setups...and basically just thought, "The ladies in Denver won't know what to do with this 46 chest, 36 waist, 26 sleeve, 18 neck, 39 inseam and 14 shoe. Watchoutnow!!! Excuse me, do you play for the Nuggets? Nah, they couldn't afford me. K'chow!!! K'chow!!!" From here, we got two more suits (a sorta chocolate brown & charcoal grey), an overcoat, two expensive but versatile ties, brown Italian leather shoes (bellisimoooo), polish & polish kit, and some more socks to match the suits. Total Damage here: I'll give you a hint. It's a fairly recent year...like Norman Rockwell was born this year...and Coca-Cola was first sold in bottles. Trying to remember the Coke commercial now, aren't ya? Well, it's 1894. Now throw a dollar sign in front of that...and you get $1894. So the total for the day...was about $2400. I had better get this job...or somebody's getting hurt. Oh...and in other financial news, the stock market seems to be in the shitter, including my retirement fund.

So I was feeling pretty fly. I was really looking forward to a new job with some new clothes. I had spent the day with my mom...which is usually a lot of fun...even though I'm pretty convinced that she watches too much HGTV because immediately after unsuccessfully trying to push a pink & lavender shirts on me (though I did get a tie with some purple...and I think salmon is just god-awful...anybody else?), she immediately said, "Let's go get your eyebrows plucked and put some streaks in your hair." "No." "Come on, do it for me." "No." "It'll look so nice and..." "No!" "It'll only take a minute and.." "NO!" "There's a place right there that we can..." "NO!!!" "Have it done and you'll be all..." (Like I'm talking to a deaf woman suffering from Alzheimer's) "NO!!!" "Set for Denver and all..." "Jesus Christ woman, open your f**king ears. NO!!!" She kept on babbling so I assume that she didn't even hear me...even after purposely trying to get her attention...so I just zone her out. Pay attention, ladies. Ever think that your man isn't listening? Here's why. Listening's a two-way street. After a few minutes, the car got really quiet, so I glanced over to see if she had talked herself to sleep...and she was looking at me like she wanted a response...so for the at least seventh time, "Oh, no thank you!" So I thought that'd be a good time to take her home so that she can get her HGTV fix...because she was obviously needing it...despite having spent four hours shopping with her adult son.

Saturday was substantially worse. Over the course of Friday night and Saturday morning, I was informed that my brother & sister-in-law were breaking up for reals this time (yes, at had been four weeks since their last breakup...but time really flies, right?). Apparently, this time, she was serious. Last weekend at the reunion, when she was there that Saturday night when my brother & I went home with the kids, she had been there telling everybody that my brother doesn't respect her and how he doesn't do anything for her and treats her like crap and so on...so one of my aunts offered her to stay in her basement. Allegedly, she still wanted to try to work it out (at least that's what she said). Over the last week, my brother had made an effort to show that he really wanted to make it work. He told me some of the stuff that he did to show that he was making an effort...and the whole time, she would brush him off and was talking to her man-hating school friends about how bad he is and basically just trying to convince herself that he's a horrible person who has never done anything for her...and that she should leave. Of course, those tricks don't know the situation except for what she tells them, so they probably think he's been on Cops a few times or something...and so they back up her decision...because what else are casual acquaintances for? She even texted me all night a few days earlier...and she was basically just trying to get my consent in doing something. However, I've seen this stuff happen before...and I told her it really doesn't matter what I say because you've already made your decision, you're just looking for somebody to confirm it for you...and if you ask enough people, you're going to get it. No matter how many people who know the situation tell you that you're a f**king idiot, if you can get ONE person to back up your decision, you're going to do it. (See: My brother marrying her in the first place) She found that person...and Saturday morning, after staying disconnected for an entire week until she could find a living situation that suited her, she had finally used my brother & his family enough...and decided to move out.

Am I being too hard on her? Maybe I am...or maybe not enough. Basically, what it boils down to...is that she wants to have the benefits of being married to my brother (Love, house, kids, financial support from the whole Love family, babysitter, food, have her school paid for, emotional support, cheap laughs, and basically just having a family) but doesn't want my brother anymore...except to take care of the kids while she goes out and does whatever...but they'll be around when she wants to do something involving them. Now, if I'm wrong, perhaps I just haven't been presented that side...but she's talked to me extensively throughout the marriage about it...and that's basically all that I can gather. Now, in her eyes, it's what's better for the kids and her because allegedly it'll be a better environment. I'm not there every day, given. However, whenever I'm down there, the only time that it doesn't seem like a wholesome family environment is that every four weeks for the past few months and she says that she's trying to talk to my brother...but either she's dreaming the whole thing and just telling people that or my brother's deaf...because I'll talk to him shortly after she tells me stuff like that...and he says that he hasn't seen her all day except for when she came home and went straight upstairs for a nap or to read some book about vampires. So, there's that side.

Now, my brother's not perfect by any means or stretch of the imagination. I mean...I'm his only friend it seems. He's very forward, brash, and pretty much a dick...but he loves his wife (otherwise he wouldn't have married her) and he loves his kids. He's given up a lot for the marriage...as I'm sure that she has. It's tough to give up a life of drugs, sex, parties, no responsibility other than to make yourself happy...just so that you can have a loving family to come home to and be responsible for. They both gave that lifestyle up...for each other. All of his friends that he used to hang out with...don't come by anymore. Why? They have no use for him (were casual acquaintances) or they have their own families and whatever else to do...and my brother's kind of a prick. So there's me, his big brother...who's probably moving to Denver soon (as he's been trying for Vegas since their first anniversary). His wife just left him for reasons she can't even really explain. She's probably going to get the kids if she wants them because this is the state of Utah. He's going to have to pay child support...because this is the state of Utah. He cleans toilets late at night for minimum wage because he has to watch kids while she goes to school during the day. So when I say something like, "It could be worse" and he replies "How?" My only response...after a few seconds delay is "You're dead sexy!!!"

Yesterday, I was basically on a Psuedo-Suicide Watch because if my brother's left to think by himself in situations like this...it usually ends badly. The first time she really left (three years ago), he basically drank whatever, smoked whatever, poked whatever, and just did whatever to make the pain go away...for about three months, then he mellowed out...then she came back pregnant with her "better option"'s baby...and he took her back. (All things considered, not that bad since when my dad get divorced he reacted in a similar fashion for a few years until my stepmom kind of saved him) We Loves love deep...even when logically, it's a messed-up situation. I'm the more level headed one (which scares the hell out of me sometimes) but when my brother tells me, "I know that you don't know how this feels" and I respond with, "Something like...there's this burning sensation right here between your heart and your sternum, your throat's bulging out like a frog's, you get this mind-numbing pain in the base of your skull, it feels like sulphuric acid is just forcing your eyeballs out of their sockets, you can't eat because your choking down your tears and food is never going to taste the same and you'll probably just puke it back up, you feel weak...like you have some kind of palsy coming over you, you simply can't stop thinking about it. You try to watch TV or cartoons or play video games or something...but everything seems to remind you of that one time she blah blah blah. You try to talk to family or friends...but you don't really want to because you don't want to break down like a little bitch in front of them. Even if it really is better for both of you, it doesn't matter because it feels like you're going to live the rest of your life in agonizing pain and you'll never find anybody ever again. You've always been there for her...and you helped her through the toughest times of her life...and when she's back on her feet, she just decides to leave you. You're right. I have absolutely no idea what that's like. You've got me there. Please, tell me how it feels. I'm intrigued." Then he'll stare at me for a second wondering who the hell destroyed me and why he never knew about it. "Okay, yeah it's something like that...only worse because it's your wife." "I have no doubt. That's why I'm here, bro."

So I basically bullspitted with him all day, making sure he ate (because he'd basically forgotten for a few days) and watched him play "Star Wars: The Force Unleashed" for a few hours making Wookie noises to get a rise out of him and distracting him from whatever I could. Reassuring him that there will be others. It'll be tough for a while...especially since she'll be bugging you every day about helping her financially and this and that...but in a few months, you'll move on and probably develop a callous of bitterness towards her around your heart...and you'll move on. Then when I'm in town, we'll take the kids down to the park...and passing joggers & single moms with their kids will stop by and introduce themselves, you'll invite them over for playdates, cook them up some macaroni & cheese, talk about the causes of your callouses and who knows? Am I or am I not the greatest brother alive? Sad thing is...I'm probably going to be the emotional tampon of my sister-in-law too. Why? Because otherwise she's going to rely on her crazy, cracked-out, man-hating school friends who don't know a damn thing about the situation except for her perceived reality of it...and they'll just say whatever to make them happy...not a real opinion. Oh...and guess who's there for my mom when she's crying about the whole thing...and the fact that her youngest is going through a divorce, her oldest (and favorite) is moving away, and her grandbabies are in a less than ideal situation? That's right. This guy.

Sometimes it makes me wonder why we even try. You know me, always an optimist. I hate to agree with cynics...but you can see their point. Why do we try to Love? The numbers are absolutely against us. You all know the numbers about marriages ending in divorce rising like it's petroleum-based. Even a nice chunk of those that stay married do so only because they have children...until they simply can't stand each other and explode (usually not literally). Even before marriage is even involved, the vast majority of your relationships are going to end in anything ranging from a mutual agreement of never see each other again to lying, cheating, stealing, vandalizing, emotionally crippling, stabbing, crushing, manipulating, and ending in some kind of police standoff to those crazy on-again, off-again things because you always think there's something better out there but then you're disappointed and come back...but wanna try again, just to make sure there's not something better out there. Maybe it's just the American way - Bigger, better, faster, stronger, richer, more, always moving forward...but it's still f**king crazy.

So why do we try? Because for every THOUSAND stories of crushed Love that ends up being the topic of conversation with your friends or in the records of the police department, there's ONE story of a great man celebrating his 70th anniversary with the woman of his dreams...who lives every day in ignorant bliss because she can't remember what year it is (sometimes Alzheimer's doesn't seem that bad) but they live every day just gazing into each other's eyes remembering all the Love that they've shared for the better part of a century. For every THOUSAND burning sensations in your chest and gallons of tears, there's a happy couple that raises wonderful kids and live in a house with a white picket fence and all that other Hallmark stuff and they just seem so happily married. Sure cynics, you may think that they're just putting on a show and behind the scenes their both banging the poolboy but maybe they really are happy...and you're just jealous. Ever think of that?

That's why we try. Because we have to believe that there's something like real Love in the world. Otherwise, our whole basis for reality crumbles and there's no point to any of it because we all die miserable and alone. That's why we should all live everyday to the fullest...and keep trying even though the numbers are so overwhelmingly against us. As for those numbers, think of this one for a second. You may go through a THOUSAND bad relationships...but there are over six BILLION people out there. So one in a thousand would be like 6 million people. Given your gender preferences, size/build preferences, whatever, there's still a few thousand people out that are "perfect" for you in your geographical area and probably waiting to meet you...and all you need is ONE. So keep that in mind when I tell you these horrible stories of Love gone wrong and how trying to make it work with what seems like the wrong kind of person isn't always in vain...but you have to have respect for yourself first and foremost. Just be careful out there...and Love with all of your heart...because there's really no other way to go about it. Otherwise you're just selling yourself short and you'll never get to feel those Highest Highs. Those Lowest Lows are a pain though. Still worth it.

Do you see what I did there? Even after a day of ultra-depressing situations and my family being rocked by a semi-treacherous little witch (just my opinion), I'm still going to be there for both of them...and the kids...and the parents...and anybody else dragged into this mess...because that's what family's for...and I look hot in my new suits. Not only that, it starts out all horrible and depressing and "Love is a lie" kind of tone...and then I try to turn it around...even though, to be perfectly honest right now, it's really hard to think that Love is awesome and the world's a fantastic place full of happy people living amazing lives full of all the good things. Then again, if I don't keep that attitude, what's the point? This too shall pass...and I wish you all nothing but the best...and that you find that One that you're looking for. I pinky swear that tomorrow will be a little more of the usual stuff. Today, I just wasn't feeling too good about the whole situation and thought about a few past situations similar to my brother's (though not really in the same ballpark, just the same sport). Have a great night everybody!!!

In Latin She Would Be Called Babia Majora

Good Afternoon Ladies & Gentlemen,

Big Announcement!!! No, nothing about a major move to Denver or Vegas or Sweden or anything like that. No, I didn't pick up a phone number at a local coffee shop from a lovely young lady. However, something that happens about as often…I'm reading a book. Not only that…but it's a book that isn't on a course curriculum. I am reading these combinations of words of my own free will. Big thanks to the Mad Scientist for loaning me "Choke" by Chuck Palahniuk (movie comes out on nationwide theatrical release one week from today). I may have already told you the plot before…but just in case, it's about a med school dropout / sex addict who in order to pay for his elderly mother's medical care works at a Colonial American theme park and pretends to choke at restaurants…and when somebody comes to save them, they feel a connection with him…and send him money, which he sends to a hospital. So it's like perverted antihero story…and the really scary thing is that I kind of relate to the guy…on some things, not all. Anyway, I'm a little past half way…but I'd definitely recommend it. It's a lot like reading my blog…what with crazy, random, jaunted thoughts in between stories that travel through time & space…while thinking about saving people and having hot, steamy thoughts about anything & everything he comes across...only better. You've all seen "Fight Club" right? Yeah, he wrote that too.

Congratulations to stepfamily member Dr. Cobabe (real doctor) on his induction into the Intermountain Ski Hall of Fame yesterday. For those who haven't heard me ramble on about this guy, he's like my step-great-grandpa or something…and he's ninety years young…and he's just about the most amazing person that I've ever met. He's been a sheep farmer, pilot, doctor, entrepreneur, civil servant, woodsmith, elected official, town founder, built a ski resort from the ground up, business genius, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, step-great-grandfather, husband of over SEVENTY years, and he still operates backhoes and other heavy machinery with the greatest of ease. I'm sure that he's even done more than that...but that's all that I could remember off hand. Simply one of the greatest guys you could every hope to meet. I would take him & his wife (has Alzheimer's but lives every day in ignorant bliss...and the cutest lady ever) food whenever my mom would cook...and he was always appreciative. How appreciative? He gave me my Poor Man's Maybach. Why? Because he knew that I would appreciate it...and was such a nice guy. He's truly an inspiration…and I hope that he lives to be a thousand years old. Because of his induction ceremony, my mom's in town today, so we'll probably go suit shopping…then hit up a kegger or something. They say 50 is the new 20 or something like that. She'll be okay. Anyway, here's the news…

Again, Aussies Know How to Party - An Australian pub offering free drinks to women who remove their underwear and display it to patrons and staff will be investigated by alcohol licensing regulators. The Saint Hotel in Melbourne has promised a "No Undie Sundie" event over the coming weekend, where woman who remove their underwear and hang it above the bar will receive fifty Australian dollars worth of free drinks. Women who flash their bras and underwear to staff also get free drinks in a promotion that women's protection groups said was "almost an invitation to sexual assault". "On the face of it, it looks like an inappropriate liquor promotion and we will be investigating with a view to banning it," Liquor Licensing Victoria director Sue McClellan told the Herald Sun newspaper. On its website the Saint describes itself as "the home of Melbourne's fashionable set" but the pub attracted the ire of regulators in June after hiring a dwarf to pour free liquor down patrons' throats. Posters for the no undies day event showed singer Britney Spears partially exposed and exiting a car in a scene local Mayor Janet Cribbes said was "bordering on being pornographic".

First off, that's soft-core Girls Gone Wild stuff that Miss Cribbes is watching. Secondly, this is basically just taking the standard Ladies Night promotion to a new level. I admire their entrepreneurial spirit. What better way to attract male clientele than to offer free drinks to the ladies? It's been proven time and time again. Also, what's the problem with hiring a little bartender? Are the Aussie authorities discriminating against the wee people? He had a bartending license, didn't he? That's like a bar getting in trouble for hiring a bartender with a tremendous rack…or hiring a bouncer because he can bench a Buick. It's just smart business sense. People love the little people. Want people to come to your pub? Promise them little people. No different from bakeries showing pictures of moist, delicious cake to attract their target market - fat kids. Or Porsche dealerships showing beautiful women next to their cars to attract their target market - needledick pricks. It's all marketing…and it was gonna work. However, I hope that the Saint gets plenty of free publicity (and give me a kickback in free drinks when I visit there) for this investigation.

We All Remember Our First - Miguel Angel Revilla, head of the government of the northern region of Cantabria in Spain, told a television interviewer earlier this week that he had paid the first time he had sex at the age of 18. Female members of the regional parliament from the opposition conservative Popular Party were outraged. "As the head of the regional government, he should be an example for the young people of Cantabria. Instead he encourages them to pay for their first sexual experience." The 65-year old Revilla, a member of a regional party, accused his critics of hypocrisy and said they were unable to find matters of substance on which to attack him. "There are major problems which need to be addressed now, not what a poor 18-year-old did. Ninety-nine percent of Spanish men did it back then." Wow, I had no idea that Spanish women were so prudish. I'm also curious as to how the conversation during a television interview takes the turn towards how a politician popped their cherry.

It intrigues me as to how the current Presidential candidates would answer a question like that. In fact, I'm pretty sure that John McCain may have an intriguing R&R story involving a little Vietnamese by the name of Mei Tran who allegedly love him short time…and his buddies affectionately called "Tranny Mei". Joe Biden may have met his wife during spring break in the Bahamas in the 60's…but does he have a slightly embarrassing first time during his high school days in Delaware? Barack Obama spent high school days getting lei'd in Hawaii…and admitted to using marijuana, cocaine, and alcohol…so who knows what kind of story he might have for a first time? The steamy, sultry fantasies that I imagine about Sarah Palin range from being swept away by a musky lumberjack while still in her tight basketball shorts in high school...to earning her nickname "Sarah Barracuda" in a mishap involving braces and a disappointed prom date...to that first experimentation with a progressive blonde roommate in a white nighty during her semester at Hawaii Pacific College, involving some of the greatest times of her life, but ending in awkwardness…and thus her returning home to Idaho. WWJD? Who Would Jesus Do? Allegedly, Jesus' first time was with a lady of the evening too. I think this topic should come up in a debate…just for Schitzengiggles.

Now, I know what you're all wondering now. "$teve, how much did you pay for your first time?" Well I'm glad you asked…and f**k you, if that's what you were really thinking. I figure since I'm making bold accusations of major public figures' first sexual experiences, it's only right that I share mine with you. Don't worry, it's not going to be that saucy…and it's worth the read. You'll giggle. "That's what she said." Sssh, I'm telling the story now. I was a young twenty-four years of age. (Stop laughing) I had been going out with a sweet young lady five years my junior for about a month. We were smitten with each other. She was sweet, kooky, and gorgeous. I was charming, funny, and a surprisingly good kisser. We would sit and talk about the crazy things that we thought throughout the day, listening to Smokey Robinson's greatest hits or something, and after about…twenty seconds or so, we'd be all over each other. Well, this particular night, we decided to finish up the trip around the bases, so we made our way upstairs to my bedroom. I thought to myself, "Holy sh*t! It's finally going to happen. Hot diggity damn!" yet maintained my suave debonair exterior. "What's with the cheesy grin?" "I ugh…" Sweep in for the deep, passionate kiss…pick her up off the ground, her legs wrap around me, and I lie her down on the bed…slowly helping her undress. I guess I panicked…but I think that I covered it up pretty well.

Fast forward to a few minutes later, when we're both in the bed, in the sheets, my mouth & hands are going everywhere, kissing, licking, massaging, groping, exploring, and she's LOVIN' IT. I am too. This is some amazing stuff. In fact, I would say amaz-az-ing. She's squealing, whispering my name, restraining herself, and then would let a little squeak out and plant her head in the pillow to let it all out. "I don't care if the neighbors hear. Do what you gotta do." (Muffled in the pillow) "Uh-uh, I don't like to hear myself." (I lean in and whisper) "Well, maybe I like it…a lot." She then turns around and we're continuing the Mack fest while I'm scrambling to find a condom to start the Big Show now that she's ready (I had been for a while). Then I hear my front door open. "What the f**k? Is somebody breaking into my house? NOW? Couldn't be. There's easier ways than through the front door. Who else has a key to my place?" Then I hear something absolutely dreadful. Moments earlier, the same word brought me so much joy & child-like giddiness…but now it was the most dreaded word possible. "$teve?" Holy sh*t. What is my mom doing here? "Oh, f**k me." I was in complete shame & confusion and looked at her with appropriate facial expressions. "That was kind of the plan. Who's that?" "My mom. Oh my God, I can't believe this." She was laughing hysterically at this point…and I was thinking that I was going to DIE a virgin. "I'm so sorry." "Hehe, you're so cute. Don't be. (Kiss) I'm having fun…and we can pick up where we left off tomorrow or something. (Kiss) Now, go say hi to your mommy. (Devilishly cute smile)" "You're the best. (Kiss)" I could hear my mom downstairs saying "Uh-oh, I hear music and see a red light upstairs. I hope we're not interrupting anything." Sweet Christ, my stepdad was here too? I couldn't help but laugh to keep from crying while I got dressed and caught my would-be lover watching me…laughing at my charming awkwardness.

I walk down the stairs, glaring at the woman who gave birth to me…and my stepfather. "Hi. Good to see you. What are you doing here?" "We told you that we'd be stopping by. (She did not...but she may have dreamed it) Are you…alone?" "No. No, not at all. Thank you for asking." "Oh God, I'm so sorry. Do you want me to leave?" "YEAH!!! Kinda wish you hadn't shown up in the first place…but it's okay. Always nice to see ya…but ugh (whisper) I'm pretty sure that you couldn't have come at a worse possible time." "Sorry. Were you gettin' naked? Hehe." "Har-de-har-har." The rest of the story goes that she met my mother, we watched a movie (I forget what because I was frustrated on multiple levels) but they both had a great time…and long story short, a few nights later, we picked up where we left off…thrice…but that's not really a story that would be appropriate for this blog and it's PG-13 rating. Could not have asked for a greater situation to lose my virginity. I reminisce about her every once in a while...but I'm sure that she's off to better things. Great memories though. So there you have it, the sorta story of my First Time. Let's see Obama do better than that.

Well, that'll do it for today. Not really much more I can divulge at this time. Gonna go make me some breakfast now. Feel free to share any stories of your first time. I understand if you're not comfortable with that...but I find it really interesting. It shows that we were all awkward teenagers (or adults with retirement plans in my case) at one point. Have a great weekend everybody!!!
